What is Orwik?

Orwik is a new scientific content management and publication platform. It allows users to store and annotate data, share with colleagues and make it public.

How will Orwik help me if I am a PI of a laboratory in a university?

Orwik will help in keeping track of results generated in the lab and find them again when the student or post-doc has left. Orwik will also help in publishing results and keeping track of the community that develops around them.

How do I know that my data is safe?

We keep data on AWS simple storage service. Every bit is duplicated three times, and the service has better than 99.99% uptime. To read more about data security and integrity on AWS please download the whitepaper here.

What is a contribution?

A contribution is a versioned, ordered collection of files and text. Please see our video on creating a new contribution for more information about how contributions work. All contributions are private until shared or made public.

How do I share a contribution?

Sharing a contribution is easy. Just enter the name of a person, their email or the name of the project into the sharing dialog. The auto-complete will help you choose.

Can I share a contribution with a project?

Yes. Just type in the name of the project into the sharing dialog and the auto-complete will provide you with the names of all projects where you have the rights to add content. Clicking on the name of the project and the the "share" button will make that contribution accessible to the members of that project.

What happens when I share a contribution with a project?

All members of that project get access to that contribution if its private. The contribution also shows up on the project page and can be seen by everyone if public.

What is a project?

A project is a collection of people who have access to any private contribution which has been shared with that project. A project page also contains links to the public contributions.

What is a group page?

A group page is a public page for an organization with its own unique url under Orwik. A group page helps link an organization to the projects its involved in and communicate with the public or with its members via announcements and discussions.

Can I access my data from the iPhone or another smartphone-enabled device?

Yes. While the editing dialog doesn’t work yet, you can access the data from any smartphone enabled devide

Why is my submit button not working?

How come when I click on "Invite new members", nothing happens?

Can I embed videos into a contribution page?

Yes. Just put the javascript code into the text area of a contribution and the video will embed automatically.
